Abstract

This study examines the theological significance of clothing imagery in the book of Isaiah, investigating how these metaphors contribute to the comprehensive theme of salvation throughout Scripture. By contextualizing the cultural and experiential aspects of ancient Israelite dress, this research elucidates Isaiah’s use of garments and attire as potent symbols of divine intervention, purification, and restoration. Each instance of clothing imagery is meticulously analysed to discern its role in advancing the salvific narrative and its congruence with the broader biblical metanarrative. The analysis reveals that Isaiah’s clothing imagery is not merely decorative but is deeply embedded within God’s covenantal relationship with Judah, underscoring His intent to redeem and restore His people and, by extension, the entire creation. The study highlights the enduring theological relevance of these imageries in conveying the transformative power of God's salvific work, offering a profound perspective on the interplay between divine grace and human redemption.
