“Is It Acceptable to Kindle Fire on the Sabbath?: A Study of Exodus 35:1-5”
Abstract
This article investigates the question, Is it acceptable to kindle a fire on the Sabbath? By analyzing Exodus 35:1-3, the study observes that the prohibition of kindling fire in 35:3 should be read in its narrative and covenantal context. The prohibition was directed to the work related to the sanctuary and was practiced during the period of theocracy only. However, this does not belittle or discredit us from doing most of the food preparations before the Sabbath day.
