“The Jesus Ministry: A Challenge to Adventism in the Solomon Islands”
Abstract
This paper examines the rise of the Jesus Ministry in the Solomon Islands. This rival ministry was founded by two former Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) pastors, Dexter Kera Lilo and Jones Paul Jama. The leaders of this movement challenge core SDA doctrines, including the Spirit of Prophecy, the Sabbath, the Mark of the Beast, and the interpretation of Daniel 2. This study begins by introducing the Jesus Ministry and a brief background of the founders of the movement. The remaining research then focuses on reasons why Dexter left the SDA Church, as well as his five doctrinal challenges to SDA theological positions. The paper concludes with tactful suggestions on how members of the SDA Church may engage respectfully with followers of the Jesus Ministry through kindness, shared values, and open dialogue about Jesus. By understanding the worldview of this movement, SDA members can respond with compassion and clarity, upholding biblical faithfulness and helping to build bridges, not barriers.
