“Sunday is the Seventh Day Sabbath in the Kingdom of Tonga”
Abstract
The “Tongan Independent Seventh-Day Adventist Movement” is a small group of former members who separated themselves from the mainstream Seventh-day Adventist Church because they believed SDAs were not observing the biblical Sabbath. They claim that Adventists observe the wrong Sabbath due to historical inaccuracies and widespread misunderstanding, affecting local perceptions with broader implications. This essay addresses these false assertions, which are necessary to explain how Sunday in Tonga corresponds to the seventh-day Sabbath according to the Bible. Historical influences, such as early missionaries who came to Tonga, the significance of the Prime Meridian and the International Dateline, and theological implications must all be considered. A study of this nature is necessary to clarify the doctrinal position of SDAs and to affirm the faith of Adventist members in Tonga and abroad regarding the Sabbath teachings of the Bible.
