“The Impact of Strategic Planning on Discipleship: An Observation and Recommendation”
Abstract
Strategic planning, a fundamental tool employed across all levels of organizational management, is pivotal in advancing discipleship efforts within the Seventh-day Adventist Church. This paper examines the impact of strategic planning on discipleship within the church, arguing that when guided by the Holy Spirit, such planning enhances effectiveness. Drawing inspiration from the apostles’ approach in Acts, who combined planning with divine guidance, adaptability, and resource management, this study explores these principles in a contemporary context. The adaptability of the apostles to adjust their plans in response to changing circumstances serves as a powerful and tangible example for us today, demonstrating the importance of flexibility in strategic planning. A SWOT analysis identifies
critical strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats associated with strategic planning in discipleship, emphasizing its role as an enhancer rather than a substitute for divine intervention. Ultimately, this paper underscores the ongoing need for flexibility and adaptation in strategic endeavors to fulfill the church’s mission effectively.
